Abstract:

Purpose: This study aims to identify the relationship between patient strengthening and quality of life and the factors affecting the quality of life of patients. Method: The study included chronic patients in a university hospital between 5 February and 25 May 2018, including those who apply for clinic in breast diseases, cardiology and general surgical units. In this study, patients with asthma, diabetes, chronic obstructive lung disease (koah), thyroid and heart disorders were included, developed by Small (2012) and used the patient strengthening scale of validity and reliability by Rock and Light (2018) in Turkey. The patient’s quality of life was evaluated by the application of the Euro Qol Group’s EQ-5D 5L scale with Dutch weights. The random sampling method was used and 515 patients were included in the study. The data of the study was analyzed with the SPSS 23 program. Results: The average score for the patient enhancement scale applied was 130,18. There was a close positive relationship between patient strengthening and quality of life. It has also been determined that age group and type of chronic disease lead to changes in patient strengthening and quality of life score. The result: This study found that there was a relationship between patient strengthening and quality of life and that patient strengthening improved the quality of life. Therefore, it is recommended to pay attention to the practices aimed at strengthening patients, to ensure the patient’s active participation in the treatment and to plan the policies to be implemented in this direction.
