Abstract:

In addition to humanitarian losses caused by traffic accidents, it has a close impact on the economic development processes of the developed and developing countries. The aim of the study in this regard is to analyze the relationship between the 1995-2017 period traffic accidents in Turkey and economic development. As a method in the study, a retardation Distributed Otoregressive (ARDL) integration model was established in order to analyze the short-term and long-term relationship between the variables of traffic accidents and economic development indicators. The validity of the model was then tested and the short-term and long-term relationships between the variables were determined and the causality relationship was analyzed. According to the results obtained in the study, the short-term and long-term relationship between the number of accidents and economic development has been identified between the index of legal superiority and human development. There is no short and long-term connection with the number of motor vehicles. According to the analysis of the short-term causality ratio achieved between dependent and independent variables, one-way causality was obtained from the number of motor vehicles and the number of accidents from the human development index. According to this conclusion, changes in the number of motor vehicles and the human development index lead to a change in the number of traffic accidents.
