Abstract:

The Syrian (internal) war, which began with local demonstrations on 15 March 2011, has become an international crisis with the involvement of global (US, Russia, EU) and regional (Iran, Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia) forces. This crisis, which has become a hegemonic and territorial field struggle and is becoming more and more difficult to resolve, seems to have led to significant political reflections in Hatay (Antakya). In this context, the study focuses on the main causes of the Syrian crisis, the key roles of global and regional actors in the Syrian crisis and the political attitude of Turkey, through the perception of the local people of Antakya. Based on the quality research model, this study took advantage of the opinions of fifty-five (55) participants with different demographic characteristics, designed as a target sample (maximum diversity) group. The prepared semi-configured interview form and face-to-face and profound conversations with the participants were conducted, the data obtained was evaluated by analyzing the relevant technical processes. According to the participants, the Syrian crisis is an international war. The basis of the interventions towards the region is the implementation of the Great Middle East Project and the security of Israel in the region against Iran. With these constructive approaches, the monitoring of different strategies by both global and regional forces has led to the continuation of chaos and conflicts in Syria. It is concerned that the population who is forced to migrate from this conflicting environment, with different cultural identities and membership groups, is concerned about the socio-political harmony of Antakya and the joint living skills.
