Abstract:

This study was conducted with the aim of revealing the relationship that family members who take care of dementia individuals have with the care burden of their levels of dealing with stress, their selfishness and their psychological resilience. The research was carried out on 134 people consisting of the relatives of dementia patients who were treated in the university hospitals in the province of İzmir and the relatives of patients who were members of the Alzheimer's Association. In the study, the care burden of the family members who take care of the dementia patient is determined by the care burden inventory, the ways of coping with stress, the scale of the ways of coping with stress, the scale of psychological resistance for adults, the scale of psychological resistance for adults, and the scale of the generalized detected self-sufficiency. The demographic information on the level of care provider and patient-related proximity and the care provider was obtained through the Personal Information Form developed by the researchers. According to the correlation analysis results, the ability to cope with and the negative relationship of psychological resistance with the charge of care, the self-quality with the treatment of stress and the positive relationship with psychological resistance has been statistically significant. According to the results of multiple regression analysis, it has been found that the lower dimensions of the Maintenant Load scale are absorbed by at least one of the variables. It is recommended that these factors be taken into account in the psychological support programs that will be developed for the family members who provide care.
