Abstract:

The fairy tales, which are the first example of verbal literature, play a major role in the psychological and social development of children. The works that are included in child literature, which can be considered as a continuation, play an important role in the development of the child, the reading habits and the educational life. Thus, these works must also bear certain characteristics. In children's literature works, some basic qualities such as painting, text page and cover design, text size, painting are classified as characteristics related to the external structure; the subject selection, language and style characteristics, how the hero is presented to the reader or the fiction of the work are also elements related to the internal structure. In this study, the characteristics of good and acceptable children’s books in the internal and external structure are studied in the example of Umberto Eco’s Tree Racconti’s fairy tale book. The purpose of the study is to identify the place and importance of the work in child literature, with the analysis of the book that Umberto Eco, which appears in the direction of the scientist and novelist, has produced by combining the fantastic and science fiction characteristics. The characteristics of the internal and external structure indicated in various sources in the field of children's literature have formed the theoretical substructure of the study and according to this method, the conclusion has been made that the work of Eco meets the qualities sought in children's literature texts.
