Abstract:

The concepts of gender and gender discrimination are the fields of discussion in which different roles of female and male are charged in the cultural and socio-economic structure of the society in which individuals are within. Especially in patriarchal societies, the living and working space of women is limited to the house by being isolated from the public space. In such social structures, male sovereignty manifests itself in every layer of society. The media sector is one of the main sectors that stands out with the male dominant structure. This sector, which has many functions, such as public creation, information, socialization, is one of the important institutions that contribute to the progress of democratic life. In this sector, women remark the positions of journalists and the problems they experience as an element to be studied. That is why this study focuses on the problems of women journalists working in the local press. The research was carried out in order to reveal the positions of women journalists working in the local press in social gender and business life and to identify the problems they experience. The examples of the study are made by women journalists with a yellow press card working for 20 local newspapers published in the province of Giresun. The study has used the deep-interview technique in order to reveal the demographic structure of women journalists, their professional activities and the problems they experience with their own expressions.
