Abstract:

The aim of this research is to reveal the problems that Syrian students at the high school level who are teaching in Turkey and the solutions to these problems. More than 400,000 Syrian children in school age in Turkey are uneducated. When the majority of the Syrians agree that they are permanent, it is necessary that these children receive education to ensure their integration in Turkey. This research was conducted through the method of research. The research was carried out in Başakşehir, Bağcılar and Fatih, three districts in which the Syrians live intensely and have a different socio-economic status. In the seven high schools where Syrian students are taught, a total of 25 teachers and 5 high schools, a total of 18 Syrian students and a face-to-face conversation technique, a semi-structured type of interview, was made. The results of data analyzed by the content analysis technique have found that the "language problem" came to the forefront of the problems that Syrian students experience in their educational teaching. Cultural differences, incompetence in communication, leaving behind the classes and academic failure have appeared as other problems. In accordance with these findings, intensive language education and compensation courses should be provided for Syrian children to learn Turkish. In classrooms, the balanced distribution of Syrian students should be guaranteed to ensure that they communicate with Turkish students.
