Abstract:

The state phenomenon, based on ancient times, began to become a modern structure with the Westphalia (Vesphalia) Treaty signed in 1648, and today it has entered a second period of vulnerability with globalization, which has led to a sharp transformation in all areas of life. Thro history, many thinkers, from Sokrates to Ibn Haldun, from Aristotle to Rousseau, have carried on the state phenomenon. Today, there is no complete agreement on the structure and activities of the states. Despite the general acceptance of the elements of the state concept in the legal sense, this widespread phenomenon continues to be discussed. In this study, after focusing on how the state phenomenon was depicted by the thinkers in the historical development process, the basic founding elements of the state will be briefly explained. In the end, some findings on the modern nation-state will be made and the impact of globalization on the nation-state will be assessed.
