Abstract:

The Tur Abdin Region, which is considered sacred in terms of the Syrians, can be described as a geographical area surrounded by Hasankeyf in the north, Siirt in the north-eastern, Cizre in the east, Nusaybin in the south, Mardin in the west and Savur in the north-west. The Tour Abdin Region houses many structures belonging to the Syrian religious architecture. These structures of the early periods of Christianity are made up of monasteries, and accordingly developing structures and churches. The tour Abdin region also hosts the tradition of Inziva and the construction of many monasteries that develop accordingly. These structures, built for use for various purposes, have made a significant contribution to the development of the region’s beliefs and cultural values. As a result of all these developments, the region’s geographical location and religious rituals and church traditions have enabled a series of structures with different functions to form over time. The structures that are formed under the Syrian church tradition and called Beth slutho (Summer Church/Dua House/Summer Apsis) represent our research location. These structures, in the vicinity of or separately from the churches in which they are located, are usually built to perform the church church worship in the summer season. A general assessment will be made in the Mor Kuryakos Church, which has been established to date in order to be more detailed about the Beth slutho concept and is located in the Arnas Village of Midyat.
