Abstract:

In this study, the scale of participation in mathematics and science courses that will be used to determine the level of participation in the course of physics of Turkish students is adapted to Turkish. The original English scale consists of 4 dimensions and 33 articles, including behavioral, emotional, cognitive and social participation. The scale is adjusted using the Turkish reverse method and following certain stages. This translated form was applied to 398 students (215 Girls, 181 Men) studying at an Anadolu high school in Istanbul. The scale measures the participation in the course of physics, and it is noted that students who participate in the study actively take the course of physics. In this context, 127 ninth-class students, 117 ten-class students and 154 first-class students studying in the numerical field participated in the study. Through the study data, the Turkish form has the four-factor structure that the original scale is predicted, tested by conducting the Verifying Factor Analysis (DFA). The DFA has shown that the Turkish form has a four-factor structure in the original scale, providing evidence of the structure validity of the scale. The Cronbach alpha reliability value has been in the desired values for all scales and subdimensions. As a result, the findings support that the customized Turkish form is a valid and reliable measurement tool.
