Abstract:

With the development of technology, computer-backed translation tools are rapidly spreading. Translation memories from BDC tools are a tool that helps to reduce the effort translated by the translator while translating, where previously translated texts are kept together with source texts. Translation memories that compare previously translated texts with the text to be translated make the translators more consistent and faster by giving the translators recommendations with different matching rates. However, the assumption that translation memories reduce the effort translated has led to a practice that spreads certain discounts in the translation market according to the foolish matching rate and that the translators do not find it fair. This research focuses on the views of translators on the different types of matchings in the translation memories. Interviewer techniques were used in the study of the methods of obtaining quality data. Three open end questions were asked to 13 professional translators. The obtained data was found by reviewing the content analysis method and repeated themes and codes. According to the interview results, the participants found not agree with the translation memories and discount requests.
