Erken Cumhuriyet Dönemi ideolojisi, eğitim programları, hedefleri, bu hedeflere bağlı ders kitapları birden ortaya çıkmış değildir. Tüm bunların dünya tarihinde ve Osmanlı Devleti’nde aranacak kökleri vardır. Bu sebeple bu makalede öncelikle dünyada yurttaş oluşturmanın ortaya çıkışı ile ilgili kısa bir giriş yapılıp yurttaş yetiştirmenin ve yurttaşlık dersinin Osmanlı Devleti’ndeki başlangıç ve oluşumuna değinilmiş, ardından Atatürk Dönemi yurttaşlık dersi, dersin programdaki yeri ve derse ait ders kitapları çerçevesinde bir değerlendirme yapılmaya çalışılmış, Atatürk Dönemi’nde yurttaşlık eğitiminin evrimi üzerine bir çerçeve oluşturulmaya çalışılmıştır.
The ideology, educational programs, and objectives of the Early Republican Period as well as the textbooks in line with these objectives did not suddenly emerge. They all have roots to be sought in the world history and the Ottoman Empire. For this reason, in this article, firstly a brief introduction about the emergence of the citizenship formation in the world, the beginning and formation of raising citizens and the citizenship courses in the Ottoman Empire are discussed then an evaluation is carried out within the scope of the citizenship course in Atatürk Period, its place in the education program and the textbooks, in an effort to create a framework on the evolution of citizenship education in Atatürk Period.
