Abstract:

Objective: To determine the differences of psychosocial care needs between pregnancies with infertility treatment and naturally experienced pregnancies. Materials and Methods: The study was implemented between December 2005- June 2006 in a private hospital in İstanbul. Sample group consists of 100 pregnant women applied to mother-fetus healthcare and are chosen by unprobability sample method. The group who became pregnant with infertility treatment and the group who experienced pregnancy naturally accepted to be volunteers. Who are over 18 age, married, literate, and have no serious disease or treatment. While gathering the necessary data, a questionnaire form, The Short Symptoms Inventory, Rosenberg Self-Respect Scale were are used. In the analysis, Chi-Square, Fisher Exact- Chi Square, Student-t, Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis and One Way Anova Tests were are used. Results: When the phenomena is examined in terms of age, husband age and marriage duration, the average values were higher statistically in infertile group compared to fertile group. The differences according to birth places, where they live, education, occupation, the husbands’ educational status, social support, marriage characteristics, menstrual cycle properties, having diseases related to gynecology were not statistically reasonable significant between the two groups. Conclusions: When compared the psycho-social effects between pregnancies with infertility treatment and normal pregnancies, there is statistically significant difference what pregnancy means for pregnant and how pregnancy influences husband. The Short Symptoms Inventory, Rosenberg Self Respect Scale median scores between the infertile and fertile group were found similar.
