Abstract:

Migration has become one of the most important events in the modern world with the influence of globalization. With migration, foreigners have begun to be seen in the employment markets, and tourism enterprises have also become an important field of work for foreigners. The social support of foreign workers in the family, friends and business environment has a positive impact on their psychology and performance and facilitates their adaptation to the host community. In this context, the main purpose of the study is to understand the perceptions of social support in terms of the problems that foreigners working in tourism enterprises in the example of Sinop. In accordance with the purpose of the study, profound conversations with refugees and foreign students were conducted in Sinop. The data collected is subject to content analysis. As a result of the analysis, the participants have reached four topics, including the reasons for their arrival in Turkey, the social experiences they have acquired here, the work problems they experience and the perceptions of the future. The findings showed that the participants, despite problems such as unregistered work, low wages, disqualification, their perceptions of social support were not low. Participants have been seen to perceive emotional, intellectual, cohesion and rarely material support in their family, friends and business environments. In addition, the results of the study indicate that the tourism sector, with its broad business scale characteristics that include work intensity, seasonality and low qualification requiring jobs, is a facilitating and harmonizing business area for the employment of foreigners. The study is expected to provide original contributions to the field as it addresses the issue of foreign workers who are concerned with very little work in tourism. As a result of the study, micro recommendations for tourism enterprises employing macro and foreign staff for foreign employment and country policies have been developed.
