Abstract:

Today, the occupation of agriculturally productive land has accelerated with the spatial development of cities. In particular, the importance of the lands around the cities established on these lands and continuing their growth towards these lands has started to increase. Turgutlu city, where the fertile farmland the Aegean region of Turkey was founded on the Gediz Plain. Spatial development of the city in time, I. and II. class has been on agricultural land. This situation leads to the loss of fertile agricultural land, poses a threat to the future of agricultural activities in the plain. In this study, the negative impact of the spatial expansion of the city of Turgutlu on agricultural lands, the loss of agricultural land was tried to be revealed. In this study, the zoning plans of Turgutlu city and the land and land use ability classes data of the General Directorate of Rural Services were used. From 1950, when the spatial development of the city has accelerated, approximately 1700 hectares of agricultural lands have been opened to settlement. In the future, the development of the city on fertile agricultural lands to the north must be prevented. As in the last development plan, the development of the city should be continued in the south-southeast direction.
