Abstract:

Cyprus has been very important for all states that exist in the Mediterranean throughout the historical process. Since the Ottoman State knew well the role of this island in defending the Anatolian lands, it gave great importance to the sovereignty here. Since the 16th century when the island was conquered, a settlement policy aimed at increasing the Turkish population was followed. Founded in the early years of the Ottoman Empire continued since the establishment of the Republic of Turkey and also because of this importance has shown a close interest in matters relating to Cyprus. The Cyprus Issue is one of the longest-running issues in international affairs in the world. However, this issue did not receive a deep interest in the early 1950s by the Democrat Party government, with the concern of being in line with the world conjuncture. However, in the eyes of the people of Cyprus due to cultural and historical ties with the Republic of Turkey it has remained constant live. As the problems of the Turkish population living on the island increased, the press of the country carried this to its lines. Although there are many studies on how the national press approaches this issue, there is a lack of opinions of the local press on this issue. In this study, the "Cyprus Issue", which is an international issue, will be discussed in the context of the Vansesi newspaper, which is an important element of the local press in Van, one of the most important cities of Eastern Anatolia.
