Abstract:

The aim of this research is to determine the opinions of pre-service teachers who have taken the “Material Design in Social Studies Teaching” course about their experience of preparing digital materials using various Web 2.0 tools. This study, employing the qualitative research method, used the case study design. The study group consisted of 19 pre-service teachers studying in the department of social studies teaching of a university in Türkiye. Interview technique, one of the data collection techniques, was used in the research. The data were subjected to content analysis. As to the results of the study, most pre-service teachers stated that they had been worried about preparing digital materials at the beginning of the course, but such worries disappeared after they developed their materials. The Web 2.0 tools that pre-service teachers use most frequently when designing their digital materials are Wordwall, Canva and Plickers. Among the basic qualities the pre-service teachers paid attention to in preparing digital materials were appropriateness to the learning outcome and subject, clarity and understandability. All the participants said that they would use digital materials in their professional lives because they make various contributions to the lesson, teacher, and student. They also stated that working as a group made different contributions to them.
