Türkiye'de okutulan lise tarih ders kitaplarında Süryanilere yaklaşımı ortaya koymayı amaçlayan bu araştırmada "doküman incelemesi" yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Türkiye'de 2002 yılına kadar okutulan tarih ders kitaplarında doğrudan Süryaniler ile ilgili herhangi bir konuya yer verilmemiştir. Bu dönemde Türklerin Anadolu'yu fethi sırasında Anadolu'nun içinde bulunduğu durumdan bahsedilirken o sırada Anadolu'da yaşayan halklardan birisi olarak Süryanilerden bahsedilmektedir. 2000'li yılların başlarından itibaren Avrupa'da bulunan bazı Süryani sivil toplum örgütlerinin 1915 yılında Süryanilere soykırım yapıldığı şeklinde propagandalara başlaması üzerine MEB Talim ve Terbiye Kurulu 2002 yılında Süryaniler ile ilgili konuların öğretim programlarına alınmasına karar vermiştir. Bu karar üzerine 2009 yılında yayınlanan 10. sınıf tarih ders kitaplarında "Osmanlı Devleti'nde Süryanilerin durumu" başlığı altında Süryaniler ile ilgili bilgilere yer verilmiştir. Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı 2017 yılında öğretim programlarını değiştirmiş ve bu çerçevede hazırlanan tarih dersi öğretim programı ve ders kitaplarında Süryaniler ile ilgili bağımsız bir konuya yer verilmemiştir.
In this study, which aims to reveal the approach to the Syrians in high school history lessons studied in Turkey, the "document study" method has been used. In Turkey until 2002 history lessons did not contain any subjects related directly to the Syrians. During this period, the Turks talked about the situation in Anatolia during the conquest of Anatolia, while the Syrians talked about as one of the peoples living in Anatolia at that time. Since the beginning of the 2000s, when some Syrian civil society organizations in Europe began propaganda in the form of the 1915 genocide of the Syrians, the MEB Education and Education Council decided in 2002 that the subjects related to the Syrians should be included in the teaching programs. On this decision, information about the Syrians was included in the 10th class history curricula published in 2009 under the title "Status of the Syrians in the Ottoman State". The Ministry of National Education changed its teaching programs in 2017 and the history lessons prepared in this framework did not include an independent topic related to the Syrians in the teaching program and the curriculum.
