İbn Nedim IV/X. Asırda Bağdat’ta yaşamış bir âlimdir. O, el-Fihrist adlı eseriyle şöhret bulmuştur. İbn Nedim, bu eserinde yaşadığı döneme kadar ulaşan çeşitli ilim ve sanat dalları, dinler, mezhepler ve kitaplar hakkında bilgiler aktarmıştır. On bölümden oluşan eserin beşinci bölümünde İslam Mezheplerini ele almıştır. Onun verdiği bu bilgiler Mezhepler Tarihi açısından bir değerlendirmeye tabi tutulmuştur. Mezhepler Tarihi alanında yazılan eserlerde mezhep isimlendirmesi, mezheplere yaklaşım, 73 fırka hadisinin mezheplere yaklaşımda etkisi, mezheplerin tasnifi gibi pek çok konuda çeşitli problemler ortaya çıkmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda İbn Nedim’in Mezhepler Tarihi yazıcılığında etkili olan 73 fırka hadisini nazar-ı dikkate almadığı gözlenmiştir. O, Ehl-i hakk, Ehl-i batıl, Ehl-i bidat şeklinde kategorik ayrımlara gitmeyip mezheplere yaklaşımında olumlu bir dil kullanmış ve böylece klasik kaynakların çoğunda var olan hataya düşmemiştir. Verdiği bilgiler ve mezheplere yaklaşımı göz önünde bulundurulduğunda İbn Nedim’in Mutezile’nin ve İmamiye’nin etkisinde olduğu ve bu mezheplere yakın durduğu anlaşılmaktadır. Bu etkinin izlerini onun mezhepleri tasnif sisteminde ve mezheplere yaklaşımında görmek mümkündür.

Ibn Nedim has transmitted information about the various branches of science and art, religions, disciples and books that reached the time he lived in this work. In the fifth part of the work, he discussed the Islamic Mezhebians. The information that he has given is subject to a historical assessment. In the works written in the field of the history of the Mezhepler, various issues have arisen, such as the denomination of the Mezhepler, the approach to the Mezhepler, the impact of the 73 Fera Hadith on the approach to the Mezhepler, the design of the Mezhepler. The study found that Ibn Nedim did not take into account the 73 fake events that were influential in the history of the Mezhepler. He did not go to categorical differences in the form of Ehl-i right, Ehl-i batul, Ehl-i bidat and used a positive language in his approach to the disciples, and so did not fall into the mistake that exists in most of the classical sources. When the knowledge and approach to the disciples is given to be considered, it is clear that Ibn Nedim is influenced by Mutezile and Imamiye and is close to these disciples. It is possible to see the traces of this effect in its disciples and in its approach to the disciples.
