Abstract:

Foreign direct investment is an important tool that contributes to the capital stock that underdeveloped and developing countries need for development. For the investor country, FDIs are frequently used in terms of access to new markets and strategic proximity to resources. This study focuses on the studies published in the Web of Science database and dealing with the relationship between FDI and regional development. With the help of the VOSviewer program, the data taken from the Web of Science were analyzed and the results were reported. The data used in the study includes 11408 studies conducted between the years 1977-2021. According to analysis related to the years, it is seen that with 844 studies 2019 is the year with the highest number of. The first three countries with the highest number of studies are respectively; America, China and England. It is seen that the publications were made in 161 different countries. The total number of authors identified in the publications is 16851, these publications were presented by 5490 institutions. While the institution with the highest number of publications is the World Bank (WB), the institution with the highest number of references is National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). When the studies are evaluated on a regional basis, America, Europe and China constitute the majority of the studies. In the publications, 14054 different keywords were used. The three most frequently used keywords are; “Foreign Direct Investment”, “FDI” is “economic growth”.
