In this study, the interest rates in Turkey, due to their real and financial effects and their importance in terms of budget balance, have been examined, what are the factors determining. Factors determining interest rates in the study were classified as internal and external factors and studied in this framework. Monthly data covering the period 1996-2004 were used to test the co-integrated and long-term relationship between variables. According to the results, the main factors affecting the interest rate are internal factors in the form of public spending, inflation and real income. The findings show that the U.S. interest rates as an external factor during the review period have no influence on the Turkish interest rates. The main reason for this is that the real interest rates in Turkey are above the world level.
