Abstract:

After the February 1917 revolution in the Russian Empire, sufficiently changes had been happening in the world political arena. The overthrow of the monarchy in a state called Nationals Prison had led to the creation of a democratic atmosphere. Although national and political movements took place all over the country, the political situation in the South Caucasus had been radically differing from other parts of the empire. Thus, the polyethnic situation of the region was preventing the policy of centralization here. Also, political difference of opinions had been lead to the region becoming an intensive political zone. The Transcaucasian Seim, which was formed after the February Revolution in the South Caucasus in February 1918 was characterizing some kind of statehood. The participation of Azerbaijanis, the largest Caucasian people in this body, had played an important role in determining the future status of the Caucasus. The article deals the role played from the Azerbaijani political elites in the Transcaucasian Seimas and the struggle to create a future nation-state.
