Abstract:

In this study, it was aimed to determine the 'Scientist Image' of primary school students. The population of the research, in which the survey model was used among the quantitative models, consisted of students attending primary schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, and the sample consisted of 140 students attending a primary school in the Central district of Çorum province. The "Draw A Scientist" (DAST) test developed by Chambers was used to collect research data. In the analysis of the raw scores obtained, “descriptive statistics for categorical variables are given as frequency and percentage”. “Pearson Chi-Square Test” and “Fisher Exact Test” were used in the analysis of categorical data. As a result of the statistical analyzes, it was seen that there was a statistically significant difference between the findings of drawing the scientist gender according to the gender of the participants (K=8.007; p<0.01), and the participant boys drew more male scientist figures than the girls. According to the class level of the participants, the activity drawing findings of the scientist (F=5.460; p<0.05), the scientific tools used by the scientist among the drawing findings (F=9.569; p<0.01) and the symbols used by the scientist are among the drawing findings. A statistically significant difference was found (F=42,658; p<0.001). Statistical significance level was considered as p<0.05, p<0.01, p<0.001 in all calculations.
