Abstract:

It is extremely important for women to be active in business life, both economically and socially. In the tourism sector, the number of female employees is increasing day by day. This situation also draws attention to the question of which positions women employees take part in the sector and what are the problems they face. In this study, it was aimed to determine a number of problems encountered by women at the executive level in the tourism sector, which allows women to be employed at a high rate compared to other sector, and it was carried out in 4- and 5- star accommodation enterprises with operation certificates in Ordu. In the study, in which the qualitative research was applied, semi-structured open-ended interview questions were prepared, and 11 female managers were interviewed for 9 accommodation businesses. According to the findings obtained from the female managers interviewed face-to-face, they state that career opportunities are offered to women managers in hotel enterprises in Ordu province, but these opportunities are concentrated in certain departments. (Sales and Marketing, Housekeeping, Front Office, Human Resources etc.).). In addition, low wages, long and flexible working hours, lack of social security, inequality of opportunity in career opportunities, gender discrimination, patriarchal mentality, inability to balance one's private life and work life are among the findings related to the difficulties they face.
