Abstract:

The aim of this study is to identify the elements that cause organizational silence in teachers, identify the problems arising from organizational silence in educational institutions, and reveal the ways teachers can deal with organizational silence. The study group consists of 12 teachers. In the research, one of the quality research techniques is the case study approach used. Data is collected using semi-configured interview questions. According to the findings of the study, participants pointed out that organizational silence occurred due to the atmosphere of fear, communication problems that cause organizational silence, unfair practices, an unstable environment and a variety of other factors. According to teachers, the main problems caused by organizational silence are the decrease in commitment to the organization, the decrease in the effectiveness of educational activities, the decrease in the quality of education, the decrease in motivation and consequently the decrease in work satisfaction and work dissatisfaction. According to teachers, the provision of a democratic school environment to eliminate the silence in the classes, the work aimed at developing effective communication between individuals, the provision of organizational justice, the understanding and tolerance of the school management and the participation in decision-making processes have been considered as ways to deal with organizational silence.
