Abstract:

Stories that continue to exist in a tradition from the past to the present are considered a common heritage of human consciousness and carry traces from the inner world of mankind. These traces show themselves as a motivation in the stories. The motives, according to their structures, create the roof of a story. Through them, stories continue to exist like a organism, playing a first-degree effective role in the creation of new stories. Parallel to the process of mankind’s rule over the earth, the stories have begun to become increasingly unlike each other. Although the themes of these stories are different and the heroes are different, the motives are always the same, since the narrative takes the role of a building stone in creating the story. For this reason, it is necessary to identify the motives first in order to be able to resolve a story properly. Identifying the motives of a story can be a very easy job for a public scientist. But the fact that the motives in the stories are not identified according to a certain theory brings a number of difficulties for subsequent studies.  The popular scientist Stith Thompson, who realized this problem, developed a very useful method to systematically classify the motives in his work, the Motif-Index of Folk-Literature (MIFL). The method used in this work has been accepted by many motivation researchers and has been used in similar studies later. However, in the application stage of this method, the researchers "most practically show the motives in the best place in the text, placing a new motives found according to the thematic order in the MIFL.
