Abstract:

The aim of this study is to investigate the appropriateness and predictive validity of the Secondary Education Institutions Central Examination (OKMS) scores. For this purpose, the relationship between OKMS subtest raw scores and the year-end academic achievement scores of the 8th and 9th grades belonging to the same courses was examined by canonical correlation, one of the multivariate analyzes. Academic achievement scores of 8th and 9th grade courses were taken as independent (predictor) and OKMS subtest scores as dependent (criterion) variables, and 2 separate canonical correlations were analyzed. Before the analysis, the compatibility of the data with the assumptions of the canonical correlation analysis method was examined and outliers that could negatively affect the correlation between variables were not included in the analysis. According to the results, only one canonical correlation was found to be significant between the variable sets. While the predictive power of the History of Revolution and Kemalism courses and the 9th grade History and Science courses was found to be high; It was concluded that the academic achievement scores of some courses could not explain the OKMS subtest scores. In addition, while the 8th grade variable set explains 50.1% of the variance in the OKMS variable set; Grade 9 was able to explain 46.5% of the variable set.
