Abstract:

Abstract Known for his novels, Reşat Nuri Güntekin puts an end to his writing activities, which he started with a theater criticism in 1911, with a theater piece. He shows the realist attitude that he was influenced by in his novels in his other works as well. While writing his plays and criticizing the plays of other authors, he does not depart from the principles of realistic criticism. Reşat Nuri, who followed the years when Turkish theater was formed, both as a playwright and as a critic and audience, analyzes works by considering the principles of realistic criticism such as scientificity, impartiality, and reflecting reality on the stage. By examining the writings of Güntekin, who has written many criticisms within the scope of nearly half a century of experience, under the title of the principles of realistic criticism, the critical side of a critic who has worked for Turkish theater is examined, as well as the determination of where the Turkish theater has come from in terms of stage, acting, decor, and gaining a national attitude. It is possible. Resat Nuri; He is counted as one of the few critics who will shape the period environment that tries to keep the theater, which is a genre imported from the West with copyrighted, translated and adapted works by modern theater people and researchers, in a country that does not have an actor, stage, stage and audience culture in the modern sense. With the analysis of Güntekin's criticism writings, which has the history of theater in Western culture and the technical elements of this literary genre, the artist's theatrical criticism, which has not been emphasized much, is evaluated in the article, and a contribution is made to Reşat Nuri's literary personality.
