Abstract:

Because sport is a social activity that enables the individual to participate in dynamic social environments, it plays an important role in the socialization of the individual. This research was conducted with the aim of studying the relationship between self-respect and social integration of university students who take selectively body education and sports lessons. The research was carried out with 101 volunteer students who continued their education in the various departments of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University and prefer any of the body training and sports courses as a selective course. In the first part of the study, the personal information form prepared by the researchers was used to determine the demographic characteristics of the participants. In the second part, the "Square of Self-respect" developed by Arıcak (1999) and in the third part, the "Square of Social Integration in Sport" developed by Yılmaz, Profitable and Orphan (2006) was used. The data was analyzed using the SPSS (Statistical Package Program for Social Science) 16.0 program. When the results from the study were evaluated; the positive and meaningful relationship between the subdimensions of the scale of self-respect and the subdimensions of the scale of social integration in sports was identified. In addition, the perception points of the participants who have been interested in the sport industry for more than 2 years have been significantly higher than the points of the participants who have been interested in the sport industry for less than 1 year, as well as the points of the participants who have been interested in the sport industry for more than 2 years.
