Abstract:

The aim of this study is to assess whether there is a relationship between ESR and erythrosite index (the number of red blood cells (RBCs), hematokrit, hemoglobin, average corpuscular volume (MCV), average corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), average corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), red cell distribution width (RDW). Materials and Methods: The study included 658 patients with ESR levels below 30 mm/h, between 18 and 50 years of age, ESR and erythrosite indices simultaneously measured in the same sample. Results: ESR has been found to have a negative correlation with all erythrosite indicators (RBC numbers, hematokrites, hemoglobin, MCV, MCH, MCHC and RDW). ESR values in women and elderly adults were higher, respectively, than in men and young adults. Results: Eritrosite factors, especially hematocritis, should be taken into account when interpreting ESR results
