Abstract:

Reading is a skill that individuals meet during school and benefit throughout their lifetime. It is necessary to become a habit of reading, which extends to communication without getting information and which is intrinsic with many mental activities, both educational and cultural. The main objective of this study is to study the attitudes of students who are studying in the 8th class on the reading habits. The research has used a screening model. The universe of research is the 8th class students who are studying in the Manavgat district of Antalya; the sample is made by 304 of the 8th class students who are studying in 8 different high schools located in the same district. The data of the study was developed by Gömleksiz (2004) and collected through the "The Attitude Measurement on Book Reading Habits" by Balcı (2009) for the purpose of measuring its availability in Class 8. The study found that in all the subdimensions of reading habits of "love", "work", "necessity, "will", "effect" and "affect" girls were higher average than boys; statistically, they developed a more positive attitude to the reading habits of girls in every subdimension. These findings can be interpreted by the fact that girls students are physically and psychically different from men students.
