Abstract:

The concept of digital competence, which is more popular with current curricula, has gained more functionality in education after the Covid-19 pandemic. In this process, the lack of digital and technological infrastructures started to be seen in the education with the distance education applications that started to be implemented in our country. In this period when digitalization came to the fore, it was inevitable for teachers to be affected by the process. Considering this situation, taking the views of the teachers in the context of digital competence reveals the importance of the research. In the research, it is aimed to reveal the views of social studies teachers on the concept of digital competence in social studies education. The research was designed in the case study pattern, one of the qualitative research method designs. The study group of the research consisted of 14 social studies teachers working in a district of Erzurum province. The data of the research was collected with a semi-structured interview form. The data of the research were analyzed with content analysis. The MAXQDA 20 analysis program was used for the content analysis method. In the research, it was concluded that schools had limited technological and internet infrastructure, they had problems in obtaining technological materials, there was not enough information about reflecting the concept of digital competence in textbooks, students' digital competencies were not sufficient, and students' use of social media was far from digital competence.
