Abstract:

Although a ceasefire agreement was signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan in 1994, clashes with increasing violence continued to occur from time to time along the border line. The most extensive of these conflicts is the Four Day Wars, which took place on April 2-5, 2016. These conflicts brought the Karabakh issue back to the international agenda and drew attention to the fact that the option of war did not disappear. As a matter of fact, after the war between 27 September and 10 November 2020, Azerbaijan succeeded in liberating a large part of its lands from the Armenian occupation, and efforts were initiated for the return of the residents of the region. After the Four-Day Wars, the village of Çocuq Mərcanlı, which is described as "Böyük Qayıdış" in Azerbaijan was opened to settlement served as a pilot project for the reconstruction of the cities liberated from occupation in the Second Karabakh War. In this study, based on the mentioned symbolic meaning of Çocuq Mərcanlı village, it is analyzed that the activities carried out to open the lands liberated from occupation in the post-war period for settlement and the convertibility of a policy of return into a rebirth story.
