Abstract:

Teaching Turkish comes first amongst the other elements of teaching the mother tongue within a particular plan. For today; Turkish is taught in Primary and Secondary Schools, but it was also involved in Turkish source books implicitly in the past. One of these literary works is Mantıku’t-tayr by Gülşehri. Gülşehri who translated Mantıku’t -tayr which was written by Feridüddin-i Attar into Turkish fort he first time with its original title, didn’t just translated it, but she also added many stories from different sources and created an authentic work. In this work, the basic language skills in Mantıku’t-tayr which was written in old Anatolian Turkish of 14th century have been detected and revealed the correspondance level of these skills with the functions in Turkish Language Teaching Programme (6th, 7th and 8th grades). This work is based on document analysis, all the 4440 couplets in Mantıku’t – Tayr have been scanned and through this scanning 1070 couplets related to basic language skills have been detected which include 878 couplets of speaking, 38 couplets of writing, 76 couplets of listening and 79 couplets of reading and the irrelevant couplets haven’t been evaluated. It’s been seen that the listening skill in this work has been used mostly through hearing / auditory (49 couplets). It’s been emphasized that the spoken words in the listening activities must be listened very carefully. Once again it’s been stated that good listening is the basis of good understanding. The couplets related to speaking skills have been detected the most. The importance of elocution, answering the questions properly and on time, solving the problems by talking and evaluation of self-speech have been emphasized. The importance of reading various works has been dwelt on. The writing skill has been processed mostly through the writing species and writing materials. The couplets involving the basic language skills have been examined and it’s been seen that the skills in this work are corresponded with the functions of today’s Turkish Lesson Teaching Programme.
