Abstract:

In this study, it is intented to examine the empathic tendecies and empathic skills of high school students who have set their higher education preferences as Guidance and Psychological Councelling program in terms of variables such as gender, perceived income level, thype of school and reasons for chosing the relevant programme. Research population consist of students of secondery schools providing education in Tire province of İzmir. The sampling of the study of universe includes 105 people who have set their higher education preferences as Guidance and Councelling programme. In the research, “Personal Information Form”, “Empathic Tendencies Scale” and “Empathic Skills Scale” are used as the means of collecting data. In the statistical analysis, t test, Kruskal-Wallis H test, variance analysis and Mann-Whitney U test was performed. At the end of study, it was found that levels of students’ empathic tendencies and empathic skills according to gender, perceived income level and thype of school have not a remarkable. According to the cause of preferences it was determined that empathic skills is not differentiated but empathic tendencies is differentiated in favor of "A Vocation Proper to My Personal Qualifications and My İnterest". It can be inferred that the average score of Empathic Tendency Scale (X = 71.54) is at a “good” level, and the average score Emphatic Skills Scale (X= 146.24) is at a "medium" level
