Îsâr, Kur’an ve hadîslerde methedilen yüksek hasletlerdendir. Bu haslet, Hz. Peygamber’de en üst seviyede bulunmaktaydı. Sahabe de Allah’ın Resûlü’nü örnek alarak bazı hâdiselerde veya gerekli hâllerde îsârı yaşamışlardır. Îsâr üzerine yapılan ilmî çalışmalar, onu klasik ve yaygın bir tasnifle “mal ile îsâr” ve “can ile îsâr” şeklinde ele almaktadır. Konu ile ilgili hadîsler dikkate alındığında söz konusu tasnifin yetersiz kaldığı gözlenmektedir. Zira hadîs kaynaklarında yer alan îsâr ile ilgili rivayetler, bu tasnifin muhtevası dışında kalan farklı beyan, fiil ve hâlleri de ihtiva etmektedir. Îsâra dair yeni ve şümullü bir tasnifin yapılması konunun ve ehemmiyetinin daha iyi anlaşılmasına katkı sağlayabilecek bir husustur.

Altruism is one of the high qualities praised in the Qur'an and hadiths. The prophet Muḥammad was at the highest level at this virtue. The companions experienced altruism by taking the example of the messenger of Allāh in some cases or when necessary. Scientific studies on altruism, in a classical and widespread classification, treat it as “goods and altruism” and “life and altruism”. When the ḥadīths are taken into consideration, it is observed that the classification is insufficient. Because the narratives about altruism in the hadith sources also include different declarations, acts and situations other than the content of this classification. A new and comprehensive classification of altruism, may contribute to a better understanding of the subject and of its importance.
