Abstract:

Numerous jewelry and accessories found during archeological excavations suggest that our ancestors wore expensive clothes and decorated them with taste since the Bronze Age. The gradual increase in demand for jewelry and decoration things led to the development of jewelry art, which is one of the main components of artistic craftsmanship, and made condition for the creation of toponyms of this art in settlements. Although jewelry and decoration things have been used by men at various times in history, these things have mostly belonged to women. For this reason, both in material-cultural samples found in archeological monuments and descriptions on epigraphic monuments it is more happened jewelry and accessories belonged to women. Sheki, located in the north-western region of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was one of the places where jewelry developed as one of the important centers of craftsmanship, and various types of jewelry and decoration things were made elegantly. But, the ancient art of Sheki has not been systematically studied and has been out of the research.The authors looked at the stages of development of this art field and tried to cover them systematically by analyzing jewelry and accessories found in Sheki and surrounding areas in different historical periods. During the research, it was referred to the results of archeological excavations in the area, written sources, ethnographic observations, and museum materials.
