Abstract:

The aim of this research was to conduct the validity and reliability study of the PEARL Observation Form for 5- and 6-Year-Old Children. There are items in the form that evaluate the social and emotional behaviors of children. Expert opinions were taken in terms of content and scope validity of the form. The sample of the study consists of 5- and 6-year-old children (n=224) attending pre-school education institutions in Ankara province; Çankaya, Keçiören, Yenimahalle, Sincan, Etimesgut, Altındağ and Mamak districts. Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) and Bartlett tests were performed to determine whether the collected data was suitable for factor analysis. As a result of the analysis, the KMO fit measure value was calculated as .96. This value is considered to be a very good value for KMO. The calculated Bartlett Test of Sphericity value is 7356.41, which is significant at the .01 level. In the exploratory factor analysis performed to determine the factor structure, it was determined that the form had a single factor structure and 29 items had a high load value, and item correlation values varied between .57 and .89 and were significant at the .05 level. It was found to have an Alpha reliability coefficient of .98. When the results of the analysis are evaluated, it can be said that the "PEARL Observation Form for 5- and 6-Years-Old Children" is a valid and reliable measurement tool to measure the social emotional behaviors of 5- and 6-years-old children.
