Abstract:

This study aimed to examine the eating behaviors and environments of children aged 48-72 months. The study used the survey model and the working group consisted of the mothers of 229 children attending kindergartens and preschools in the Çankaya and Yenimahalle districts of Ankara. The data were collected with the forms developed by the researchers. On examination of the children’s eating behaviors according to their parents’ education levels, no significant difference was found between the groups in the children’s appetites, eating speed, and the amount of food on the plate that they consumed (p>0,05). But a significant difference was found between the groups in the children’s ability to distinguish between healthy and unhealthy foods (p<0,05). A significant difference was found between the eating statuses of children who eat under different conditions, i.e., at the table or in a different environment (p<0,05). When their children do not eat, in their approach according to the educational status of the parents; There is no significant difference in the approaches of mothers when their children do not eat, according to their learning. There is a significant difference between the approaches of the fathers. By raising awareness of parents through trainings to be given with educators and mass media, healthy eating behavior can be gained to their children.
