Bu araştırma beş ve altı yaş çocuklarının duygu düzenlemelerinin cinsiyeti, doğum sırası, kardeş sayısı, aile tipi, anne yaşı, anne evlenme yaşı, anne öğrenim düzeyi ve annenin çalışma durumu değişkenlerine göre incelenmesini ve bu çerçevede; çocuğun duygu düzenleme becerilerinin desteklenmesinde annenin etkisini ortaya çıkarmayı amaçlamaktadır. Araştırma grubunu İstanbul ili Avcılar, Beylikdüzü ve Küçükçekmece ilçelerindeki okul öncesi eğitim kurumlarına devam eden beş ve altı yaş grubu 551 çocuk ve bu çocukların anneleri oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada çocukların ve annelerin demografik bilgilerini elde etmek için “Kişisel Bilgi Formu”, çocukların duygu düzenleme becerilerini ölçmek için Shields ve Cicchetti (1997) tarafından geliştirilen ve Yağmurlu ve Altan (2010) tarafından Türkçeye uyarlanan “Duygu Düzenleme Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre, çocukların duygu düzenlemeleri, çocuğun cinsiyetine, kardeş sayısına, aile tipine, anne yaşına, anne evlenme yaşına ve anne öğrenim düzeyine göre farklılık gösterirken, çocuğun yaşına, doğum sırasına, annenin çalışma durumuna göre farklılık göstermemektedir.
