Abstract:

The main actors ensuring peace and equality in work life are state, employee, employer and unions. However, in national and international literature, it is accepted as a common point that employers have negative opinions and treatments about trade unions. Besides, especially in national literature, the number of studies analysing employer's perspectives towards unions and trade unions with field research is quite limited. On the other hand, although insufficient, there are a number of field studies indicating how employees evaluate the unionisation of employers. Considering the aforementioned conditions, the assumption made in the study was that employers have negative opinions on trade unions. In the theoretical part of the study, literature review method was applied while in field research part qualitative research method was used. In this research, 17 employers and employer representatives were interviewed through depth interview technique. In field research, participants owning a business and employers and employer representatives working in textile sector are more distant and prejudiced towards unionisation of employees and themselves compared to other participants working in different sectors.
