Abstract:

The aim of this research is to identify the views of primary English teachers on their own language skills. The research was carried out in a karma method with the aim of identifying the views of primary English teachers. The research work group consists of 117 primary school English teachers who work in various regions of Turkey in the 2019-2020 educational year and participate voluntarily in the study. The data was collected online through Google Forms with a survey prepared by researchers and used the expert opinion for validity. The obtained data was analyzed with the SPSS 24 package program, interpreted with the help of percentage and frequency tables. According to the research, a large majority of teachers experience a difference in English language skills after starting their professions, and this difference is negative. Most teachers believe that the degree they teach has a negative impact on foreign language skills. The majority of the teachers involved in the study have noted that they are trying to develop English in their daily lives by watching foreign series and movies, and many of them do not have the opportunity to actively use their foreign languages outside the school. Another finding from the study is that 86.3 percent of teachers believe that if they continue to be teachers of English in the primary school for many years, this will cause a serious negative effect on their foreign language skills.
