This study investigated the effectiveness of teaching summary writing in English inorder to improve non-native English speaking students’ writing abilities in the target language. Employing a pre-test / post-test model, the study examined possiblesignificant differences between the results of experimental and control groups. Datawas collected in two ways: (1) by a questionnaire completed by students in the studyand (2) by a grading-scale analysis of pre-test and post-test results . Most of thedata was analyzed with ANOVA. The findings revealed that teaching summary witing has positive effects on the students’ developing writing skills in English. A“summary writing teaching model” and suggestions to improve programs inEnglish Language Teaching Departments were proposed in light of the findings
