The aim of this research is to synthesize findings of studies investigating effects of game-based learning environments on academic achievement. 23 studies, which were obtained from the databases of ProQuest Citations, ScienceDirect, Google Academic and Council of Higher Education (YÖK) National Theses Center and determined based on specific criteria, were included in the meta-analysis. As a result of the calculations based on the random effect model, a statistically significant effect size was obtained. This effect size is favored by the experimental group. While the country in which the study was conducted and study type significantly influence effect size; game type, instructional level, and course type did not significantly influence it as moderators of the study.
