Abstract:

In Turkey’s foreign policy, South Caucasus is one of the top priorities. The presence of the Turkish-Muslim population in the southern Caucasus has increased the importance of the region in terms of Turkey in every stage of history. Nahçıvan, one of the important strategic points of the South Caucasus, has an important role in Turkish politics. Nahçıvan, for a long time, developed in the intense political support of the Ottoman State, then the Republic of Turkey. Nahçıvan, located on important strategic transport routes, has seen a mission of direct land connection between all the Turkish Republics and Turkey. In the study, the historic development of the regional importance of Nahçıvan in the Southern Caucasus policy of Turkey will be examined, the process of turning to the guarantor of Nahçıvan of Turkey will be underway and the current state of the Nahçıvan factor will be assessed in the framework of the Turkish-Azerbaijan relations.
