Abstract:

Considering the impact of tourism on the social, cultural, economic and natural environment, which is an important sector for all countries, it is important to raise awareness of tourism not only in the local people living in the tourist area, but also in other citizens. The best place to create this awareness is the school environment. The task of raising tourism awareness in schools belongs to the social information course in high schools according to the teaching program. The tourism subjects are included in the 5th and 6th class teaching program. The most effective way to develop tourism awareness in students is to acquire tourism-oriented literary skills. Reading is not only a process of having language knowledge but also a process of raising meaning. In this context, tourism literature can be said to be a process of understanding tourism in a diverse way. The aim of this research is to identify the views of social information teachers on tourism literature to increase sensitivity to the tourism sector, which is a major source of income in our country. The research was carried out with 14 social information teachers who worked in the central school of Ankara and were selected with a simple, unselected sample method. In research, it has been used quality research methods in obtaining data, analyzing data and interpreting the results. In the research, the interview technique was used to obtain data. During the interview, a semi-configured interview form was used. In the analysis of the data, the forms of conversation were analyzed using the visual analysis method. The study found that social information teachers were able to analyze the definition and effects of tourism in a multi-facet but their knowledge of tourism types was not sufficient, they addressed tourism literature in one point and they did not do a sufficient level of educational activity to train individuals with tourism consciousness.
