Bu makalede, Süryanilerin tarihi süreçleri ve sosyolojik yapıları ele alın-mıştır. Süryaniler yüzyıllar boyunca oldukça kaotik bir cooğrafyada yaşa-mışlarddır. Bu nedenle, dini, politik ve ideolojik açıdan pek çok farklı pa-radigmanın etkisi altında kalmışlardır. Bu olumsuz etki Süryanileri tarihi ve teolojik açıdan hatalı tanımlamalar ve yanlış isimlendirmeler gibi so-runlarla yüz yüze bırakmıştır. Ancak son zamanlarda üretilen akademik ve objektif çalışmalarla, Süryani liderlerin kendilerini ifade etmelerine fırsat bulmalarıyla Süryanilerin tarihi geçmişi ve teolojik öğretileri hakkında doğru bilgilerin edinildiği bir süreç başlamıştır. Bu makale de bu tür çalış-maların bir örneği olarak kaleme alınmıştır.
