Abstract:

This study involves efforts to understand and categorize art, which are at the heart of current art literature, and discusses the transformation of the techniques that require qualified labor in the process of creating new criteria of today’s art through textile works. With regard to the unlimited freedoms which the present art defines in terms of production practices, materials, and technologies used, the artwork shows itself as a production that shows itself as the main characteristic of the narrative established by the artist, the process in which it is found and the main characteristic in which it is made. The artists’ increasing quest for meaning, textile materials with cultural value, which are connected to the past, and related techniques, are often included in the art agenda in terms of the metaphors he hosts.  The work and handwork narratives established using textiles are transforming known techniques related to material into the current art understanding and enabling us to study the representation of the craft. In this context, the practices that can be considered craftsmanship come to us as a new creation area with its own narrative that can be addressed by the artist. In the research, examples in the fields in which today's art is exhibited are studied in particular by increasing textile works, speeches specific to the concepts of labour and labour. The selection of these works was made from the exhibitions and organizations we watch the current art in Turkey, from the artists who applied textile practices. The visual documentation was obtained by screens made from the exhibitions. The artists have been referred to the statements contained in the literature about their works, or they have been informed of their own techniques. The research aims to contribute to art literature on the approaches of artists from our country to textile materials.
