Bilge Kağan, kardeşi Kül Tigin’in vefatı karşısında içten üzülmüştür. Bunun için kardeşinin hatırasını yaşatmak amacıyla yazıt ve çevresindeki yapıları hazırladı. Yazıtın önemi Türk tarihinin ilk yazılı belgeleri özelliğini taşımasıdır. Türk adıyla devlet kuran Kök Türkler, Orhun Abideleri ile tarihimize ışık tutmuşlardır. Orhun Abideleri, dönem hakkında bilgiler aktaran ana kaynak özelliğine sahiptir. Türkler ile ilgili pek çok alanda bilgiler anlatmaktadır. Yazıt bilgileri ile Türk tarihinin bir kesiti aydınlatılmış olmaktaydı. Makale konusu Kül Tigin yazıtının güney cephesinde bulunan on üç satırlık metin kısmıdır. Metnin içeriği kısa olmasına rağmen zengin bilgiler vermektedir. Türk alfabesi ile yazılmış yazıt, bugün Moğolistan sınırları içerisindedir. I. Kök Türk Devleti’nin yıkılış nedenleri açıklanmaktadır. Bilge Kağan, Türklerin ülke dışına gitmemelerini istemektedir. Metinde Türk milletine, beylerine dikkatli olmaları için çağrılar yer almaktadır. Türk devlet adamlarının sorumluluklarının yanında halkın devlete bağlılığı da istenmektedir. Hakan, halkın yaşam tarzının değişikliğe uğradığında yıkım ile sonlanacağını hatırlatmaktadır. Yazıtın orijinal satırları dikkate alınarak, satır geçişleri numaralandırılmıştır. Metnin satırlar, değerlendirilerek açıklama yoluna gidilmiştir.
The wise Kağan is deeply sad in the face of the death of his brother Kül Tigin. For this he prepared the writings and the buildings around him in order to live the memory of his brother. The subject of the article is the thirteen lines of text on the southern front of the Gul Tigin text. Although the text is short, it gives rich information. The text written in the Turkish alphabet is now within the borders of Mongolia. The causes of the collapse of the Turkish state are explained. He says the Turkish people do not want to go outside the country. In the text, the Turkish people are called to be careful with their men. In addition to the responsibilities of the Turkish government, the people are required to commit to the state. Hakan reminds that when people's lifestyle changes, it will end with destruction. Given the original lines of the text, the line passes are numbered. The lines of the text have been evaluated and explained.
