This study aims to measure the effect of warning labels on cigarette packages on smoking cessation behavior with the variables of attention, negative effect, social interaction, and stimulus thinking within the framework of the paternalistic approach. The study, which included 209 smokers studying at Gumushane University, was analyzed with the structural equation model. The results obtained from the study show that there is a positive and strong relationship between social interaction and stimulus thinking, alert and attention, negative influence and social interaction. In addition, it is seen that the variables of attention, stimulus thinking, negative effect and social interaction have an indirect and statistically significant effect on smoking cessation behavior.
